The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

I raved about The Hunger Games film. It was fresh and novel. The sequel reminds me of the disappointment I felt when I saw the second installment of Twilight: it was entirely repetitive.

The same mood, the same visuals, the same constellation of conflicts and affections. Apparently the director followed to book quite closely. After a long opening section, we take the train to the capital. And there the hunger games commence once more. The movie picks up some pace here but we feel like we have seen this before. Our heroine is fighting against the odds and so far not dead. During the last five minutes the plot take an unexpected turn, leaving you entirely confused. You want to ask someone who has read the books: “Can you please explain to me what just happened?” The director should at least have taken the liberty to ensure those who have not read the book are given a bit more explanation why the plot took this strange turn that seems to make no sense. But I guess this is supposed create suspense so we want to come back for the next installment. I will not…
