In October 2012, I started reading Middlesex. It did not know until I started this book that a certain percentage of people are neither fully male nor female.
It is the story of a Greek family immigrating and then making a life in America after World War 1 to current times. I found the initial chapters intriguing but after a while I lost interest in the characters. The novel felt more and more constructed to tell an entire social history of America from the point of view of Greek immigrant family that has a startling sexual history. After a while I gave up and picked up The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, which I was able to finish without any difficulties because the characters kept my interest.
