Allied starts out similar to Casablanca. Same time (World War II), same place, comparable ambience. A male British agent, Max (Brad Pitt) and a French female agent Marianne (Marion Cotillard) are instructed to kill the German ambassador. The mission is very dangerous. They give themselves a 40% chance they will come out of it alive.

There is some strong chemistry between them. When Marianne wants to seduce Max,  given they may not live much longer, Max initially refuses. But as the day of assassination job comes close he changes course and the two find themselves on an unexpected journey.  I enjoyed this film. And the NY Times critic who I consulted before deciding to watch *Allied* is correct. Just watching two beautiful people (Pitt and Cotillard) is pleasurable by itself.
